Serenity House Substance Abuse Treatment and Prevention

Frequently Asked Questions

How are the programs in Fredericksburg and Abilene different?

The recovery program in Fredericksburg is identical to the program in Abilene. That said, there are a few differences in the locations themselves. The facility in Fredericksburg is smaller than its Abilene counterpart (it does not offer detoxification services) and it is also located in a country setting.

Transportation is provided in Fredericksburg, to both the health club and off-site support groups meetings. In Abilene, the patients walk less than one city block to the fitness and recreation center made available to them, and transportation is provided to off-site support group meetings.

How will my transportaion be managed?

All clients in need of detox must first arrive in Abilene to go through detoxification. If the ultimate treatment site is Fredericksburg, the Serenity staff will transport the patient to the site, when the doctors and nurses have approved departure.

Is Serenity House a coed facility?

Our Abilene campus is coed. Presently, our Fredericksburg campus is male only.

Should I bring my car?

You will not be using your car while at Serenity, so it is best not to bring it at all. Serenity will provide all necessary transportation during your stay.

Is there an exercise room, weight room, or swimming pool?

Twice each week our clients in both Abilene and Fredericksburg are provided access to a fitness and recreation center. They will not, however, have access to a pool.

Can we smoke while in treatment?

Yes. Smoking is allowed in designated locations at our treatment centers.

What is a typical day like?

Classes and individual counseling sessions are scheduled along with meals, personal time and chores to fill a day from 6:30am until 10:30pm.

What should I bring? What can’t I bring to Serenity?

When you are accepted for admission, we will email you what is and is not allowed on our premises. In the meantime, you may look over a general list of what to bring by clicking here.

Do you take dual-diagnosed clients?

Yes – subject to our physician and clinical director’s approval.

Do I have to share a room?

All of our rooms are semi-private. There are two sinks in each room, with a toilet and shower located between each two rooms.

When can my friends and family come to visit me?

We currently only offer virtual visitation as a part of our modified, but continued COVID-19 precautions. Patients will have their cell phones checked out to them if they choose to participate in visitation via video or audio connection on Saturdays (9:00-11:30 am) and Sundays (1:00-5:00 pm).
